Century Roseville 14

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

So we went to see 9 on opening day (9/9/09 for those of you at home not following) at about 3:30 PM. The movie was certainly interesting, it kinda felt long (even at 1:19) and as if there were parts that could have been shortened or removed (as a whole, kind of like the film movie was slightly disjointed, and moved smoothly sometimes and quite jerkily others). You’ll notice I crossed out the word “film,” because I’m not a real film critic and I think most of them are idiots. Kinda like you amateur bathroom critics think of me. ;)

Roomy and warm, with notes of musk and almonds…oops, wrong review! Seems like I’m having issues today. The bathroom at Century Roseville 14 is roomy and decorated in warm earth-tones, though. It’s not as up-beat as some that I’ve seen, and I’d really like to see more movie posters in there (I brought this up in the last theater review I did)…or maybe some cool old movie advertisements…like the original King Kong, or Dracula, or even Gone With the Wind. Come to think of it, what the guys’ bathroom needs is the old Rambo and Texas Chainsaw Massacre II (or other random horror movie sequel, but I seem to recall that one best from my innocent youth, the cardboard cutout standing in the video store amongst the VHS and last few remaining BETA tapes)… All joking aside, the bathroom gets a 3.5 for being above average and clean and well-executed. As much as I’d like to see relics from my youth hanging out in the bathroom (it would make me laugh) the bathroom is well-put together and really, adding anything would make it seem kitschy. The trick is to be both not average and not kitschy.

Ever notice how movie theater bathrooms (at least in newer larger theaters) tend to be clean? When you first think about it, it seems kinda weird…every time a movie gets out, hordes of movie-goers descend on the bathrooms like vultures to carrion (or sharks in a feeding frenzy). Everyone tries to hold it just a little too long so they don’t miss anything, and you’d think that there’d be more “missing”…at least in the mens’ room. ;)

So anyway…visited on Saturday (the 5th), just now getting to this after the long weekend and crazy start to the work week (fortunately I don’t have to worry about that stuff here).

In the second picture (go on, click it!…you know you want to!) you can see I captured the poster above the urinal. I really appreciate posters above stalls (and I’m 110% sincere when I say this) because I like to have something to do while taking care of business. There’s always the argument that it makes people stand there longer, but hey…read quicker! It’s much better if it’s dynamic content or cool old-style advertising (like the 19th century French advertisements for just about anything…especially absinthe), or something really interesting (this one really wasn’t, but hey, at least they put something up there…and that’s better than staring at a wall for five minutes (oops, that’s supposed to be seconds lol…this isn’t Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, after all). 3.25 rolls for the boring poster (better than nothing) and the bathroom being clean and more interesting than average…rounded down to 3 (hint: more interesting content = higher rating).
